Comprehensive Plan
New Fairview Comprehensive Plan – Final 2 (Oct. 2024)
The New Fairview Comprehensive Plan began as a pilot program at the University of North Texas (UNT), Denton. The City worked alongside UNT professors, two semesters of UNT classes, two professional planning firms (ASH+LIME and Antero Group), and a student intern. This approach was taken in the spirit of creating a “win-win” scenario, where the students can gain valuable professional development experience, while the community of New Fairview can benefit from affordable planning services.
The planning process began with the students conducting a review of plans from various rural communities to identify best practices. They also conducted surveys of New Fairview citizens and assessed the current conditions within the city. The students then analyzed potential consequences of various scenarios. Two classes of students worked on this initial research during the Spring and Summer of 2022. The professional planning firms and UNT intern provided follow-up work over the next year.
The plan’s development included in-person presentations to the city council for feedback, in order to verify findings and assess policy recommendations. This ensured that the citizen’s voices were heard and that the resulting plan would reflect the unique needs and characteristics of the City of New Fairview.
The Comprehensive Plan was adopted by the City Council at the September 16, 2024 meeting.
