Texas Election Code Chapter 41.001 states that municipal elections in the State of Texas will be held on the first Saturday of May in an odd-numbered year. The mayor and aldermen are elected for two-year staggered terms of office.
To be eligible for the office of Mayor, a person must be a registered voter in the city and must have resided in the city limits for at least 12 months prior to the election.
To be eligible for the office of Council Member, a person must be a registered vote in the city and reside in the city limits on election day.
The City contracts with the Wise/Denton County Elections Administrator to conduct all municipal elections.
