Texas Election Code Chapter 41.001 states that municipal elections in the State of Texas will be held on the second Saturday of May each year. The mayor and aldermen are elected for two-year staggered terms of office.

To be eligible for the office of Mayor, a person must be a registered voter in the city and must have resided in the city limits for at least 12 months prior to the election.

To be eligible for the office of Council Member, a person must be a registered vote in the city and reside in the city limits on election day.

The City contracts with the Wise County Elections Administrator to conduct all municipal elections.

Current Elections

The City of New Fairview will hold a Special Election regarding two propositions on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021 between 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. Proposition A will amend the City of New Fairview Code of Ordinances to provide for a 3-year term office for the Mayor and each City Council member. Proposition B will authorize the creation of the New Fairview Municipal Development District.  The main location for the election will be the Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity Street, Decatur, TX 76234 for Wise County and the Denton County Elections Administration, 701 Kimberly Dr., Denton, TX 76208 for Denton County.
