It’s good to know what’s going on!

You will have seen several of the section below, but we want to make sure that everyone is aware of important dates and activities that are quickly approaching. Please take a few minutes to read through and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to City Hall.

  • Early voting has started and you can stop by City Hall to cast your ballot. As a short update on the ballot, Patrick Gunter has announced his resignation and will no longer be serving in his capacity as the Place 2 Council Member. The City Council has requested that interested parties in filling this seat, please visit the City website or City Hall and complete an application. The seat will be filled by appointment following the election. You can read more about the candidate on the City website where each person has a profile posted. Here are the open seats and the candidates:
    • Place 2 – Patrick Gunter (resigned and will be filled by appointment)
    • Place 4 – Walter Clements and Cindy Poe
    • Place 5 – John Taylor running unopposed (Special Election)
    • Mayor – Harvey Burger, Lisa Reid, and Nolan Schoonmaker
  • The Council approved the purchase of new equipment for the maintenance of City streets. We are trying to move this forward as quickly as possible and will keep you updated as we learn more about the delivery timeframe. In the meantime, we will be looking at interim options, such as the recent partnership with the County to repair Pioneer Road, to continue maintenance.
  • The City’s solid waste franchise agreement is coming up for renewal in December 2021. Staff has negotiated two additional city-wide cleanup days and a rate for household hazardous waste disposal. The Council will be considering the amendment to the agreement providing the changes to the solid waste franchise agreement in the upcoming meeting.
  • The Texas Community Development Block Grant application for $350,000 is underway and we anticipate submitting the final application by the end of April. The funds from this grant are expected to be received in October 2021 and the additional work started upon approval of the grant application.
  • Pacheco Koch provided an update the to Council on the street maintenance and repairs program. They expect to have the design ready to release for bid by May 1 and to begin construction of the streets in June 2021. You will also see City staff working on silted and crushed culverts starting in the next few weeks.

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

We have obtained the 80% threshold on several sections of streets in the Hilltop Trails area and identified street segments where the $350,000 qualify to be spent. We really appreciate all of you that took the time to complete the survey online, over the phone, or chatted with Josh on your doorstep. Without your participation, the City would not even be able to apply for the grant funding.

We will keep you informed as we learn more about our applications status but we feel very good about our chances of obtaining this additional funding for streets improvements.
